Latch by Disclosure is one of my all time favorite songs at the moment. For some reason this song warm my heart. However once I printed out the lyrics to read it without the background music, the lyrics was not that meanful. Music always provide a deeper message or immediate connection to the song. If I was to explain the lyrics, I honestly could not tell you. I come to learn that lyrics do not make me love the song it's the beat.
When people say music is everywhere it is true. If you listen carefully to the sounds around you, it is making music. That taxi horn, the M33 bus pull off releasing gas into the air, and kids high pitch scream telling their friends to cross the street. It's funny how lyrics are not really music it's the sound, beat.
I come to believe that this is true for poetry. When in class we are asked to dissect the meaning of a poem, it's a little changeling. However whenever a poem is spoken with background music like drums, for some reason I find personally it it easy to depict the meaning of the poem.
Back to the song Latch I spoke about in the beginning have a greater effect on my feelings when the music is playing rather then myself reading the lyrics.

But if the words don't mean anything to you (or worse yet are offensive), should you still listen to the song because you like the beat?
ReplyDeleteIt depends because a lot of music today you don't even understand or here the lyrics clear.
